VACUUM PROBLEM GUIDE
Why is my Dyson pulsing?
Repeated bursts of power can be a warning about restricted airflow. A blockage or filter problem is worth checking before assuming the battery or motor has failed.
Ask about your vacuumPulsing is a symptom, not a parts diagnosis.
Dyson’s model-specific support guidance describes pulsing as a response to restricted airflow on many cordless machines. A clogged filter, debris in the wand or head, or a restricted bin inlet can produce similar behavior.
An on-screen airway-blocked warning is a clue to follow your model’s blockage checks. It does not identify the location of the blockage by itself. A machine that cuts out can also have a different fault, so don’t buy a battery solely because it pulses.
Safe first checks.
- Switch the vacuum off and disconnect it from the charger before inspecting it. Follow your model’s manual for safe access.
- Empty the bin. Look at the accessible inlet, both ends of the detached wand and the cleaner-head opening for visible debris. Avoid sharp tools and hidden electrical parts.
- Check that the correct filter is fitted and seated properly. Only wash a filter the manual identifies as washable.
- Let washed parts dry fully before refitting. Dyson commonly specifies at least 24 hours for washable filters; your model’s instructions take priority, and a damp filter must not go back in.
- Reassemble the machine as instructed before testing. Note whether the symptom remains and which attachment or mode is involved.
Do not run the vacuum without its required filter, keep forcing it to run while it pulses, or use heat appliances to dry a filter. Do not open a battery, motor or charger.
When professional care makes sense.
If accessible checks do not solve the problem, describe the model, warning and what you checked. Internal buildup may call for deep cleaning; a continuing power, seal or component fault may call for repair diagnosis.
