VACUUM PROBLEM GUIDE
Why isn’t my Dyson cleaner head spinning?
If the vacuum motor runs but the powered brush stays still, the fault may be in the head, its connection or the path through the wand. The symptom alone does not prove the head needs replacing.
Ask about your vacuumCheck which part has stopped.
Is the main vacuum pulsing or cutting out too, or does it run normally with a stationary brush? Those are different starting points. For pulsing or an airway-blocked warning, see the airflow and blockage guide.
Record whether just one powered attachment is affected and whether the problem is constant or intermittent. For a V11 head that stops turning, the exact head and wand still matter; a model name alone is not enough to select replacement parts.
Start with visible, model-approved checks.
- Switch off and disconnect the machine from its charger before inspecting the head or brush. Keep fingers away from a brush that could start moving.
- Look for hair, thread or debris preventing the brush from turning freely. Remove the brush bar only if your model’s instructions provide a user-accessible method.
- Inspect the accessible wand and head connection for visible damage or debris. Refit the correct parts securely; do not scrape contacts, bend pins or attempt electrical testing.
- Follow the manual to reassemble before testing. If the problem remains, note which head is fitted and whether the motor itself is running normally.
A powered cleaner-head housing is not washable as a whole. Only wash components expressly identified as washable for your exact model, and dry them completely. Don’t force a jammed brush or open a powered housing to investigate wiring.
Why bring the wand as well?
A head can appear faulty when a connection elsewhere is involved. Bringing the vacuum, wand and affected head allows the assembled system to be assessed. Compatible connections and powered tools vary; a physically similar tool is not proof of compatibility.

Damaged joints, worn moving parts or an electrical fault need diagnosis. Removing buildup cannot repair a broken part. Request Dyson repair for a fault, or cleaner-head cleaning for a cleaning scope agreed in advance.
Repair the head or replace it?
We compare the fault, available parts, head condition and total repair quote with you. The $25.00 assessment is credited toward an approved repair or eligible Main Unit Deep Clean or Complete Deep Clean. We do not promise every head can be repaired or recommend a replacement before checking the problem.
